This Croissant Smash Burger recipe offers a delightful twist on the classic burger by using flaky, buttery croissants as buns. Juicy, seasoned ground beef patties are smashed and seared to create a crispy crust, topped with melted cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato slices, and tangy pickles. The combination of textures and flavors makes for an indulgent, gourmet-style burger that’s quick and easy to prepare on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Ingredients

  • 2 large croissants, sliced in half
  • 1 lb (450g) high-quality ground beef
  • 4 slices cheese (cheddar, American, or Swiss)
  • 4 leaves fresh lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 68 pickle slices
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until the surface is hot enough for cooking the burgers and toasting the croissants.
  2. Season the Beef: In a bowl, season 1 lb of ground beef with salt and black pepper. Divide the beef into two equal portions and gently roll each into a loose ball without compacting too much.
  3. Toast the Croissants: Slice the croissants in half horizontally. Place them cut-side down on the hot skillet and toast until golden brown and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the Patties: Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet and immediately smash them down using a burger press or sturdy spatula to form thin patties. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until a crispy, caramelized crust forms on the bottom.
  5. Flip and Add Cheese: Flip the patties carefully and cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes on the other side. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to let it melt.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted croissant, layer fresh lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and pickle slices. Top with the cheesy smashed beef patty, then cover with the top half of the croissant.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot, accompanied by your favorite side dishes such as fries or a simple salad for a delicious meal.

Notes

  • Using a cast-iron skillet or griddle helps achieve the signature crispy crust on the smashed burgers.
  • Do not overwork the ground beef when forming balls to keep the patties tender and juicy.
  • Feel free to customize the cheese and toppings based on your preference.
  • Toast the croissants lightly to add extra texture and prevent them from becoming soggy under the juicy beef patties.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast between crispy croissants and juicy burgers.
